Rick Carey In Pittsworth, Sunday 17th April 2011
Rick Carey will be appearing with Reg Poole and Keith Jamieson in Pittsworth on Sunday 17th April 2011, starting at 2pm.
I wanted to post this, just in case anyone is nearby and can make it. Have left it a little late, so if there is another show, I will try to give way more notice. Of course when Dad sings, I get to sing with him (pretty difficult singing Rick and Thel songs by yourself 🙂 ) So hopefully will see some of you out there.
Every time we do a show, Dad says this will be the last time. I guess one day that will be correct, but for now he manages to ‘get talked into‘ doing just one more!

Rick and Thel, and that special person Cousin Ratsack will be etched in my memory forever, you are a very lucky lady to have two stars as your parents, not to mention your cousin Ratsack. Mike Pedretti
Lynne says
Hi Mike, Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I had an interesting and privileged childhood, although difficult as I had to leave them to go to school from a young age and just visit them on school holidays. None the less there are lots of wonderful and special memories that I have as a result of their occupation. Now with Cousin Ratsack, you do know that was Dad right? Just checking because a lot of people didn’t actually know. 😉 So wonderful to hear from people who have good memories of Mum and Dad and the shows. Take care, Lynne 🙂
Jeffrey Davies says
Lynne, just watched the “Ratsack” clips, I’m writing a cheque out for the DVD’s as I sit here. So many great memories flooding back of seeing your parents perform live in the late 60’s early 70’s when they came to Dubbo. We never missed one as my Father Hec Davies was secretary under President Ken Cameron of the Dubbo Country Music Club back then and club members always attended Rick and Thel’s concerts. I remember trying to perform Ratsack’s routines to my school mates after each show, he was priceless. I also found many Christmas cards from Rick in my late mother’s (Hazel) possessions, so they must have been trading cards each year till the early 2000’s. Your parents were two extremely talented and very beautiful people. Thankyou for setting up this internet tribute to them.
Lynne says
Hi Jeffrey, Thanks for leaving a comment. It’s nice to hear people’s stories of what they remember from attending the shows. I can just imagine you sharing the comedy with your mates at school … lol. You may be aware that Dad only recently passed away on the 28th July. Just 2 weeks away from his 90th birthday. In May they found he had a large lung cancer and gave him about a week. I brought him home and he managed to get another couple of months. He passed away at home, and really didn’t have anything much in the way of pain. There were a few people they kept in touch with over the years, and it sounds like your Mum was one of them. 🙂 It’s nice to know that so many people have such happy memories of the shows and what they did. I definitely need to get around to doing a lot more to the website. Hopefully will be able to do that in the not too far distant future. Thanks again. Lynne 🙂

Lynne, very much to my disappointment I never had the pleasure of seeing your parents preforming , I really loved their music and still do, I am almost 80 years, their style of music I really enjoy listening to, they were top singers !!
Lynne says
Hi Stan, Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. It’s a shame you didn’t get to see the shows, but glad to hear you enjoy their music. They were unique. 🙂

Hi Lynne
I have fond memories a a young boy of your dear mum & dad coming to Bowen,North Queensland and playing in the Tivole theatre. They became good friends of my uncle Kevin Jensen who has sadly passed on. After the show they would all go to my uncle’s place for a few drinks. Lovely lasting memories.
Alan Claes.

Lynne says
Hi Dawn,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing. We do appreciate it… I will certainly pass on your message to Dad. And I know if it wasn’t for people such as yourself, who used to come to the shows, then they could not have continued for as long as they did. It was a special time… Lynne 🙂
Wilma Ross says
Hi Lynn
I was a big fan of your mum and dad. They were the greatest country singer’s. I really miss their shows and I know there won’t be one like them. Us aborigines will never ever forget the best of Rick & Thel.
P.s their music will always live on…
Lynne says
Hi Wilma, Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment… To be honest, I miss their shows too… I still have Dad here and most days he picks up his guitar and sings a few songs. I think he misses those days too, and would love to do a few more shows. He still sings fine, so maybe we can get around to doing something again… Meanwhile, it is wonderful to hear from people like yourself who really appreciated the shows coming to town… Take care, Lynne 🙂
Deb Masters says
As a Child i loved Rick and Thel coming to our little town in Central Western Queensland ( Jericho ) It was such a thrill to see their caravans coming into town and setting up beside our town hall , it built the excitement for what we knew we were in for that night as they performed .
I was amazed when i came across them on youtube and from there searched for more about them ..
Thank you so much for being part of my childhood memories , bless you x
Lynne says
Hi Deb, Thanks for stopping by and sharing… And really, I should thank you for being a part of mine, because my childhood memories were built around the other side of that picture, and if it were not for everyone who came along to the shows then it would not have happened. They were really special times though…. Sorry it took me so long to reply… I somehow missed your post… Take care, and best wishes 🙂

Lynne says
Hi Geoffrey, Well I realise this is a very late reply, so I apologise for that… I really appreciate you stopping by and sharing your story. The 3 CD set is a good one, with a nice lot of their recordings on it. Glad to hear your wife has become a fan… All the best, Lynne
Dennis Kirstenfeldt says
When I was a child my mum and dad, Bill and Daphne Kirstenfeldt from Injune would go and see Rick and Thel’s shows without fail. One night after an accident. i had just got out of hospital the day before the show so Dad drove me up to the show the next night. I wouln’t go in . Dad went in and asked Rick to come out. he did, and he coaxed me inside to see the show. From then up to now, Rick and Thel Carey are the best country singers in my eyes. Is Rick performing on the Downs or sunshine Coast in the near future.
Lynne says
Hi Dennis,
What an interesting story… 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to share that.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Dad will be performing again. The only time we have performed in recent years is when we have been asked, because we have not actively gone out to get a show. Pittsworth was the last one…
Dad will be turning 86 on Tues (13th Aug), so he is getting on, although I am sure he could still sing if the opportunity arose.
Thanks again for dropping by and commenting.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the comment…
The wooden horse was called Radish… It is always nice to know so many people enjoy so many wonderful memories of the show.
I wonder if you have the DVD’s?
There is information on our Products Page for anyone who wants to check them out. They are great for people who remember the show (well probably good for people who don’t as well, to get to know what the shows were like).
Thank you for sharing that memory.
Regards,
Lynne
